Horse Racing Arc

ROLL UP for the world’s most prestigious horse race – the Arc de Triomphe.

Horse: Fin: Tr: Dist. Race: Cnd: 1st: 2nd: 3rd: Time: 04/01/95-R6: Perfect Arc: 1st: Hia: 1 1/16 m: T: Columbiana Handicap: 3: Perfect Arc: Another Legend: 1:40.85.

Enable is back for one final crack at the Arc, and she’s a strong favourite to get the job done today.

She’ll have to see off fourteen rivals in the Group 1 contest, but with no Love in opposition now that the ground has turned soft, her task has been made significantly easier.

But is she a shoe-in? Or is there something lurking in the contest who could have her measure?

Arena Racing Company, also called ARC Racing and Leisure Group is a UK private company, created in 2012 by the merger of Arena Leisure and Northern Racing. It owns and operates 16 racecourses in Great Britain, accounting for 39% of British racing fixtures. It also operates hotels at Wolverhampton Racecourse and Lingfield Park Racecourse and golf courses at Lingfield, Southwell and Newcastle. Arc betting is always competitive and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe represents the culmination of the flat horse racing season. It is the final opportunity to have a bet, in Europe at least, on the top talents that have emerged during the season. Persian King (Andre Fabre, France/Pierre-Charles Boudot) Boasts a superb strike rate and made it 3.

Enable – (favourite)

The Star mare has won this race twice in the past and is expected to make history by winning it a record third time.

Frankie Detorri will be riding Enable and he is the most successful jockey in the Arc’s history, with six wins.

Soft ground is fine for her and she’s the highest-rated horse in the race.

Two wins this term in the King George and September Stakes suggest she is as good as ever and she’ll take a lot of beating.

Stradivarius – 9-2 Brilliant stayer is better known for his exploits in Cup races but he’s a fine middle-distance performer too.

Soft ground brings his stamina into play and he has a big chance if they go quick up front.

Sottsass – 7-1 The strongest chance of the home brigade needs a career-best to win this but has some fine form to his name.

Ground is a little on the soft side but this trip will suit better than the 1m2f of the Irish Champion Stakes.

Horse

In Swoop – 10-1 Heavy rain has strengthened the claims of this improving three-year-old, who finished a good second behind Mogul last time and will like the ground more than his old rival.

Needs a little more but that might just come after four starts.

Machine

Serpentine – 11-1 – Derby winner produced an epic display at Epsom to run his rivals ragged and although he wasn’t as potent behind Mogul last time out that was still a good performance.

Has been supplemented by Aidan O’Brien for this which means he deserves automatic respect.

Mogul – 12-1 Produced a fine effort to win the Grand Prix De Paris last time but is very hit and miss and this ground won’t be much to his liking.

Deserves automatic respect being the number one Ballydoyle contender.

Raabihah – 12-1 Very smart filly gets weight from the boys and would have claims if the ground was quicker but this might be too tough a test.

She needs to improve on her Vermeille second last time and others appeal more.

Japan – 14-1 – Definitely needs more than his King George third and all his form (including his Juddmonte success last year) suggests he isn’t up to this.

Persian King – 14-1 – Very interesting runner is a top class miler and would be a short price for this over that trip.

Needs to prove he can do it over a mile and a half but has claims if he gets the distance for his master trainer.

Gold Trip – 33-1 – Has no form to suggest he can win this and is an outsider for good reason.

Sovereign – 33-1 – Former Irish Derby winner was put in his place by Enable in the King George and unless he gets an easy 10-length lead, won’t be winning this.

Horse Racing Arc

Way To Paris – 33-1 – Unlikely to cut the mustard here after a disappointing run in the Prix Foy and hard to see him winning this.

Deirdre – 33-1 – Mare has good form claims at her very best but she’s been poor this season and needs to find something fast.

Chachnak – 100-1 – Outsider for a reason and has no chance.

Royal Julius – 150-1 – Would be a shock winner.

Horse Racing Arcade

Arena Racing Company, also called ARC Racing and Leisure Group is a UK private company, created in 2012 by the merger of Arena Leisure and Northern Racing.[1] It owns and operates 16 racecourses in Great Britain, accounting for 39% of British racing fixtures.[2] It also operates hotels at Wolverhampton Racecourse and Lingfield Park Racecourse and golf courses at Lingfield, Southwell and Newcastle.[2] Following the purchase of Nottingham Greyhound Stadium in 2020 the company became the leading Greyhound racing operator in the UK.[3]

Personnel[edit]

The Chief Executive Officer Is Martin Cruddace who was formerly the Chief Legal Officer for Betfair.[4] Cruddace is a member of the Racehorse Owners Association.

David Thorpe was appointed Chairman in April 2014. He was previously Chairman of Arena Leisure plc, as well as the Racecourse Association Ltd.

Arena Racing came under fire following an investigative report published by The Times in which current and former employees raised concerns about working and safety conditions.[5]

Racecourses[edit]

Arena Racing Company operates sixteen racecourses in Great Britain.

After the purchase of Ffos Las in May 2018, ARC also expressed interest in acquiring Towcester racecourse and greyhound track.[6]

In August 2018, owners of Arena Racing, David and Simon Rubens announced plans for a multi-million-pound redevelopment of Newcastle Racecourse and High Gosforth Park. Changes might include a new events centre at Newcastle and a residential development at High Gosforth Park.[7]

Greyhound Tracks[edit]

In May 2017 ARC acquired both Sunderland Greyhound Stadium and Newcastle Greyhound Stadium from William Hill [8] followed by the lease purchases of Belle Vue Stadium and Perry Barr Stadium in October 2019 from GRA Acquisition.[9][10][11][12] In 2020 Arc bought Nottingham Greyhound Stadium from Nottingham Greyhound Stadium Ltd.[3]

Television Coverage[edit]

On the 1 September 2016, seven independent racecourse (Fakenham, Ffos Las, Hexham, Newton Abbot, Plumpton, Ripon and Towcester) led by ARC (Arena Racing Company) started a television service known as The Racing Partnership ('TRP'). Racing from the six Arena courses including Doncaster, Southwell, Lingfield Park and Wolverhampton became available on TRP from 1 January 2017 with all other ARC and independent racecourses being added to the schedule over the following year. This service is a competitor to SIS (Sports Information Services) who since 1987 has been providing racecourse coverage into the LBO's.

All-Weather Championships[edit]

As operators of three of the five All-Weather Racecourses in Britain, ARC were central to the launch of the All-Weather Championships in 2013. The All-Weather Championships run throughout October and climax on Good Friday at Lingfield Park Racecourse. The All-Weather Championships are sponsored by bookmakers Betway.

The racecourses involved in the All-Weather Championships are Chelmsford City, Kempton Park, Lingfield Park, Southwell and Wolverhampton in Great Britain as well as Dundalk in Ireland and Cagnes-sur-Mer and Deauville in France.

The All-Weather Championships are contested over seven categories:

  • 3 Year Old Championships (8 furlongs)
  • 3 Year Old Sprint (5 furlongs)
  • Sprint Championships (6 furlongs)
  • Mile Championships (8 furlongs)
  • Marathon Championships (16 furlongs)
  • Fillies & Mares Championships (7 furlongs)
  • Middle Distance Championships (10 furlongs)

Finals Day is the richest All-Weather Raceday in Europe with over £1million in prize money on offer.

To qualify to run on Finals Day, horses must run either a minimum of three times on the All-Weather surfaces in Great Britain, Ireland or France during the Qualifying period and carry an Official BHA Rating high enough to enter or win a Fast Track Qualifier, which will guarantee free entry.
